Emergency Childcare

We provide secure 24-hour crisis childcare for children from birth through six years old.  There is no income restriction, and all children experiencing a crisis are welcome to visit.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Parental stress

  • Medical emergencies

  • Homelessness

  • Domestic violence

  • Mental health or substance abuse appointments

Family Services

Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery's Family Services Program provides a range of vital education and support programs for parents to help them improve the quality of their lives, strengthen families, and prevent child abuse and neglect. The core programs in our Family Services component are home visiting programs, provided in-person and remotely. All families served at Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery are strongly encouraged to participate in Family Services Programs.

Basic Needs Pantry

In addition to our other services, Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery maintains a basic needs pantry which stocks infant formula, diapers, wipes, and other childcare supplies.  Those interested in items from the basic needs pantry can learn more by calling 1-217-525-6800 or emailing

It was Marinda "Mini" O'Beirne's love of children and her desire to combat child abuse that brought a crisis nursery to central Illinois. Mini was an administrative assistant to an Illinois State Representative when she heard of a crisis nursery in another city. She spent two years investigating, planning, and encouraging others to join her crusade against child abuse. Amidst all of her planning, she died of cancer on April 29, 1988. A steering committee carried out Mini's dream and named the Nursery in her honor.

The Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery opened May 15, 1989. In its first year, the Crisis Nursery staff of six cared for 400 children.

Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery is a non-profit social service agency. Because there is no charge for care, the Nursery depends on financial support from government, corporate and local grants, fundraising through special events, and contributions by businesses, community organizations, and individuals.

Children Cared For

Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery depends on the support of our community members and donors to provide care and support to children in need.  Below are the ways you can prevent child abuse through a donation today!

Direct Donation

Donations made today go directly to provide crisis childcare hours for children in need.  Last year, the cost to run MOCN per crisis care hour was $78 - including childcare staffing, educational materials, and building maintenance!

MOCN Wishlist

We are always in need of in-kind donations at the crisis nursery to meet the needs of the children while they are here. All extra donations are given back to the community through our basic needs pantry.

This wish list is updated weekly and can be accessed via Amazon here, or by visiting our Facebook page.
